cupcakes, snow cones and beautiful handmade craft...

Cupcakes, snow cones, beautiful and craft ....are you confused....wondering where I am going with this....the family and i spent the morning at our primary SCHOOL FETE....I was in-awe, absolutely amazed - totally loving how a school community gets together, functions, coordinates, laughs and plays to bring to its greater community a FANTASTIC family experience....

besides the sugar high [thx to all that blue and red cordial at the snow cone stand] we are still laughing, sharing, relishing inschool fete aftermarth as we continue to consume all the goodies we picked up along the way ...caramel popcorn, cupcakes and love heart biscuits on a stick...

I had the fun experience of being on the CRAFT STALL for some of the morning - being crafty & all - I realised how non-crafty I was or maybe felt as I was surrounded by all these amazing handmade crafts by mums from my daughter's primary school - take a look .....

these amazing array of cards were made by school mums - I couldn't help myself ....I know I was there to work but am sure that I spent much of it doing a little "craft stall shopping"...

I purchased these fun cards that were made using Rasberry Rocket and Starburst Collection papers thanks to the very talented Caroline and her array of paper cutters...

did I mention that school mum Caroline is very talented - she also made these fabulous pencil holders...with nice Faber Castell colour pencils - notice the coordination between fabric and pencil colour ...gone are the days where I carry colour pencils in a snap lock bag [sorry Glad] ...I think a litle plagerism might be in order, as I make a few of these for christmas presents...

nope ...not finished yet....yes you are probably wondering by now if I was actually doing any work on the craft stall....

fun loving, ever-smiling talented school mum Sally whipped up 12 of these gorgeous aprons in a variety of bright colours....I bought one for Emily [maybe this will assist in reducing the amount of porridge one gets on one's clothing at breaky]

 there was much more that could have been purchased from the craft stall but i had to draw the line ...afterall there was snow cones to be consumed, pony rides, animals that needed more patting and love, the jumping castle to burn off snow cones and let's not forget.....decadent cupcakes, coconut ice and caramel popcorn.....I finished the day off by picking up a tomato plant which the children are planting as we speak......

true beauty

Today i decided to take my daughter out for breakfast before school.  An opportunity to spend some time with her - catch up - i don't have to list it but there are numerous benefits that arise from my mere $20 investment in food and priceless investment in time...whist sipping latte I decided to have a peruse through the papers and so starts the reflection for my blog today......

 Filippa Hamilton a model who has worked with Ralph Lauren since she was 15 [she is now 24] has been dropped by the clothing label for being "too porky" -

She recently featured in a fashion photograph for Polo Ralph Lauren, which was doctored to make her look abnormally thin - photo on the right -

I was perplexed at the image on the right - someone, somewhere  decided that this image was appealing to the rest of us - that somehow we would be influenced, impacted in someway by this visual.  Not only is the image unappealing - it is a LIE and yet it appears in a magazine where its objective is to ultimately influence us [women, girls..].  Why?  Because it can?! ? Beause it does?!? Does it?!? Maybe it doesn't quite so much anymore because we are old enough to discern, to see the UNTRUTH - the false - and maybe the stupidity!

BUT then I stop to think that our girls [my girls], their friends, my nieces, .. are not old enough to see the LIE in it all.  So I guess it comes down to us - to me - your everyday kinda porky mum to reveal the TRUTH of real beauty, to define what if means to be beautiful that encourages a love for ones-self and ones true worth .  DOVE did a survey that found 83% female teens aged 15-17 agree their mother has positively influenced their feelings about themselves and their beauty and that 95% of  female teens aged 15-17 agree it is important to actively encourage young girls to have a realistic and healthy body image.

 

When all is said and done - the statistics and supporting video have been pondered upon I go back to the basics - my girls and the amazing blessing they are to me.  I reflect on their love for life, their zest for all things fun and their uncontrollable loud laughter.  I can only pray that one day they grow up to write a blog just like this....

worm farms and christmas cards

what do worm farms and christmas cards have in common .....you ask....well ...not much...but they r the 2 things on my mind as I started to write this blog item. 

the spring-like weather we had over the weekend [its winter like t'day] promoted some enthusiastic gardening in my household - being not much of a green finger i do need some motivation to pull out weeds.  however, now that i have endured the pain and grit of clearing out weeds to reveal some rather stunning plants i have no issues with telling all about my impressive looking garden

my assistance Nicole walked in today [we are working from the home office] and i insisted she peruse my garden before she start work - much to her dismay of course ...cute red high heels in my soggy [due to small amounts of rain this morning] garden was not so appealing even if to admire the lack of tree-like weeds

OK now onto the WORM farm  .... my son decided that he needed to take worms for show and tell at kindergarten t'day after seeing loads of worms in the garden during my gardening moment over the weekend - this promoted a huge journey of discussion amongst the 4 years olds at kindergarten about worms, gardening etc which then prompted the development of a worm farm...WOW!  and my Zach proudly informed me during kinder pick-up that HIS worms were in the worm farm ...FABULOUS!!!

yesterday we released our CHRISTMAS 2009 collection....in today's language some would say a little late but i am convinced that christmas before TERM 4 of school is way to early for me - and i would consider myself a christmas enthusiast - surely we need to see some spring racing elements in store before we deal with christmas

ok well i must apologise - it was very quiet on the blog front last week - we had a crazy week 12-15 hour work days ....urrggghhh

yes wow is the only word that comes to mind when i think that i actually got the time to play with paper, and ribbons and of course scissors [you gotta love the person who created scissors]

speaking of scissors - was struggling with my handy circle cutter [not so handy when one is struggling with it] - well eventually gave up for the the handy scissors and kinda did a freehand circle...nice...gotta love freehand...
